The Costa del Sol is one of Spain's most popular tourist destinations and it stretches along just over
150 kilometres of Málaga province. The area's warm climate is the main attraction that makes it possible
to enjoy the beaches and a wide variety of outdoor activities all year round. The area is extremely
popular with the British ex pat community and holiday makers. With much of Spain's tourist income
being generated here.

Eastern
Costa del Sol is the 54 kilometre stretch of coast to the east of Málaga city (the capital of
Málaga province). Property development on the eastern Costa del Sol is far less than the western
Costa del Sol.

Nerja is the most developed town on this end of the coast and in recent years has grown rapidly. Much
of the eastern
Costa del Sol accommodation for tourists can be found in Nerja by way of hotels or
rental accommodation. This town has one of this area's main tourist attractions - the Nerja Caves, an
amazing attraction that is open to the public and which is host to an annual music and dance festival
within its famous caverns. There are some nice beaches to be found in this area, the main one being
Playa Burriana.

Western
Costa del Sol is the 100km of coastline that begins at Malaga city and stretches westward all
the way to the border of Cádiz province. This part of the coast revolves around Malaga International
Airport (8 km west of the city) and the N340 coastal highway which connects you quickly and easily to
places like Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola, Mijas Costa, Marbella, San Pedro de Alcantara
and Estepona. From San Pedro de Alcantara there is a road which takes you inland to the important
historic town of Ronda.
