Estepona is 75 km west of Malaga airport with a population of 37,000. Estepona was originally a fishing
village but has developed in to a mainly Spanish resort which has managed has not yet been spoiled by
too many high rise hotels and apartment blocks.
Estepona old town has a much more traditional Spanish atmosphere than most of the other Costa del
Sol resorts with it's typical Andalusian whitewashed houses, cobbled streets and balconies decorated with
flowers.
A very pretty promenade runs along the length of the seafront and is lined with palm trees and flowers.
There are many places along the promenade where you can sit and have a cold drink in the shade and
there s a park for the children.
Estepona beaches have had a lot of work carried out on them to replace the course grey sand with finer
sand and are now, better than before. All the usual beach and water activities are available here.
Estepona is a quieter holiday resort away from the busy nightlife of Marbella and Puerto Banus
although there are some disco pubs around the Port.
There are lots of things to do in and around Estepona. There are four museums in the bull ring, which is
on the outskirts of the town, of which one has an interesting collection of bullfighting memorabilia. The
small town of Ronda, which is famous for its fantastic gorge is a great day out.
The nearby village of Manilva has some Roman sulphur baths which are very interesting but a little
smelly.Estepona is also home to Selwo Aventura, which is a safari park where you can ride in the back of
a truck to see animals such as tigers, lions and elephants, or you can go on a camel ride, or walk on the
rope bridges high above the animals below.
