Mijas Costa
The Ayuntamiento de (the Town Hall of) Mijas divides this area into three very different neighbourhoods.
* Mijas Pueblo which is a small inland mountain Village.
* Las Lagunas which is a more Modern, commercial area.
* Mijas Costa which covers 12 km's of beautiful coastline
Mijas Costa covers the 12 kilometre stretch of coastline from El Chaparral to Calahonda and includes
two large urbanizations, Riviera del Sol and Sitio de Calahonda. Even though it is only a 15 minute drive
from small traditional village of Mijas the residential and beach life of Mijas Costa is very much up to date
with a variety of properties available ranging from small one and two bedroom apartments for holiday lets
up to huge villas with sea and Mountain Views from the private pool.
Sitio de Calahonda and Riviera del Sol are areas in their own right and have all the amenities such as
commercial centres, supermarkets, golf courses, sports centres, bars and restaurants for every day
living. The population here is made up of British and other foreign residents who live here permanently
and in summer and also in the summer an influx of tourists who own or rent holiday homes there .
Because to the large number of English speaking residents and visitors, here you can find everything you
will need including English medical centres, most people there can speak English. The main A7 motorway
passes right through, making these areas very well connected to the rest of the Costa del Sol.
LA CALA DE MIJAS - THE CENTRE OF MIJAS COSTA
One of the best known sub sections of Mijas Costa is La Cala de Mijas which is a small modern village
which still retains some of it's charm from when it once used to be a very small fishing village and has a
selection of local bars and restaurants to suit every taste and budget from traditional Paella to British fish
and chips. Also here you can find a public library, schools a health centre which makes this a very
popular area for many British expats to relocate.
Every Wendesday and Saturday from 09:00 - 14:00.There is a local market at the feria ground which is
situated next to the motorway. The market stalls offer everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to local
crafts, leather goods, sweets and cakes, shoes and handbags and lots more.
