Parque Aquaticos Mijas
For this month's tried and tested we went Parque Aquatico Mijas in Fuengirola.
It's only a 20 minute drive from Marbella and is well worth it for a fun family day
out. We arrived at about 11.30 and set up camp next to the childs play area.
There are plenty of sunbeds and parasols which although the sign says 2.80
euros per day, turned out to be free because nobody asked us for any money
(maybe they only charge in July and August). Once the kids were creamed up
we let them loose in the children's area which is divided in two, with one side for
really small kids and babies and the other side for kids up to 1.2 metres. If your
kids love water as much as my kids do then there is enough here to keep them
occupied all day which is just as well because they are very strict on 1.2 metre
rule as i found out after trying to smuggle my 6 year old daughter on to one of
the larger slides. I was punished by the lifeguard blowing his whistle at me for a
full five seconds with that finger wagging that we've all come to know since living
in Spain followed by everyone looking at me as if to say "can't you read". So in
the interest of this article I had to test all of the slides myself and although they
don't compare to the water slides in the Disney parks they weren't bad.
Every hour on the hour they turn on the wave machine for 5 minutes in the
bigger of the pools but this is more of a big ripple than a wave and was a bit
disappointing. At 3pm there was a dancing show by the local modern ballet
school which lasted for about 45 minutes and was quite entertaining however
there was no shade for the spectators and the hot afternoon sun forced us to
leave after only 30 minutes to go and have a dip in the pool to cool down. All in
all it was a good day out and very good value for money at only €15.50 for
adults and €10.50 for children from 4-12 and under 4's are free.
