Before we ventured outside, Anna our guide explained
the Segways' features and gave us five minutes of
tuition, which is all that is needed. The two-wheeled
personal transportation device use gyroscopes and
microprocessors, readjusting about 100 times a second
to balance the rider – following prompts from the
slightest tilt of the hands or feet.

The Segway only has two wheels, yet it manages to
stay upright by itself.
To move forward or backward on the Segway , you just
lean slightly forward or backward. To turn left or right,
the rider simply moves the handlebars  left or right. You
get the sense of power and speed, yet you also feel a
sense of safety and absolute control. It all feels natural,
safe, and instinctive after just a few minutes.

Riding the Segway  feels like nothing you've ever
experienced before, because there's never been
anything like it before. Step on and your instinct will be
to steady yourself, as you would on anything with two
wheels. But almost immediately you'll realize that the
Segway  is balancing for you, almost like it has become
an extension of you. Just lean forward a little and it
moves forward, lean back a little and it goes backward,
it really is that simple. The Segways are suitable for any
one of any age (the group before us were all in their
sixties) with the only restriction being that you must
weigh more than 40 Kilos (about 6 stones). After about
five minutes on a Segway you feel completely
comfortable and you are ready for your tour of the
beautiful city of Malaga.
If like me, you only go to Malaga for the airport every time you
have visitors or for trips back to Britain, then you have been
missing out on a city full of architecture and culture.
When we were invited for a tour of Malaga with a difference on
a Segway, my first question was - what is a Segway? my second
was why Malaga? So we made the 25 minute drive (from
Calahonda) to find out.
We found the offices of Segway Rides very easily and parked in
the underground car park which was only two minutes from the
office.

"And the best part is that you are
doing all this in style, gliding along at
up to 12 miles an hour whilst virtually
everybody that you pass stops and
looks at you with intrigue."
